4) The writer in his or her time.

Just One Look

Harlan Coben, said to be '' the modern master of the hook-and-twist luring you in on the first page… only to shock you on the last '' according to Dan Brown (author of The DaVinci Code), is an American best-selling author of mystery novels and thrillers who was born in 1962 in Newark, New Jersey. His novels are critically-acclaimed and it's probably the reason why Coben is the first author who has won the three major prices of American suspense literature (Edgar-, Shamus- and Anthony Award). In 2004, he published Just One Look, a thriller which deals with Grace Lawson, a woman married to a guy called Jack Lawson with whom she has got two children. After she had picked them up from school, Grace Lawson looks through a newly developed set of photographs in which she finds a mysterious picture from fifteen years ago. At first, Grace doesn't manage to recognize a single person in the five strangers that the photo is showing but then she realizes that there is actually one person that she knows very well: her husband. Later, as soon as her husband comes back home, she shows him the picture and asks him if it's really him on it, just for the record. Jack answers no but Grace keep doubting. Then, while she's waiting in the bedroom, she hears the sound of a car starting. Consequently, she looks through the window and sees her husband leaving their home although he didn't inform her of his departure or even explain to her why he decided to drive off and, furthermore, right after they talked about the mysterious picture. Therefore, the next day, Grace decides to inquire about the people on it because she feels that Jack is in trouble and that, besides, this picture is the reason why.

Lettuce be friends ! (haha haha... ok)

  • So, in order to introduce myself, my name is Chloe, I'm sixteen so I'm in the 11th grade and this thing is for English Literature. For this class, I have to create a blog where I have to tell about any kind of work of art, like for example books, films, music, or paintings.
  • I probably won't talk about the last one, not that I hate PAINTINGS but because I don't like the way painters of our generation represent things, sometimes it's just two features and several colors mixed together and I don't really think this is art 'cause it don't represent anything in particular so I don't understand how people can seriously buy those things ten thousand pounds or more and put them in their living room.
  • Anyway, let's talk about something interesting : BOOKS. For me, books are more than something boring you have to read for school because you are going to have a test on it. Books are a way to escape from reality, from your daily-life. When you read a book you automatically create a film in your head, which is actually great because it can surprise you and make you feel as if you are living or witnessing the scenes you are reading, especially when the scenes describe something which can not happen in reality because it forces you to picture it in your mind. Moreover, there are plenty of books which can please you because there are so many genres and so many authors that you can't say '' I hate books, all of them '', because it means you had only read the boring books gave by your teachers and, as a result, you are just boring as well.
  • To move on, let's talk about something I also like : FILMS. My favourite films are definitely Horror films. In my opinion, they are really entertaining but only if I watch them with other persons so as a consequence it makes me laugh and not pee in my pants. Wow that was awkward.. but I also like to watch others types of films, like for instance the last good movie I saw was Dark Shadows I think, I really liked that film since it was pleasant and quite funny. On the other hand, I don't often go to the pictures so when I do I don't watch crappy films like Project X (it's just my opinion, please don't slap me).
  • Finally, MUSIC is for me, and for everybody I suppose, an important thing because I listen to it everyday, it changes my mood in a good or in a bad way and furthermore, there are lots of great artists who can really change your day by listening to their voices (not the ones changed with autotune but the real ones), make you smile, give you gooseflesh and I think it's fantastic.
Have a good day ! xoxo
